Recent Times
EVP research is conducted all over the world, most heavily in Germany and the United States. Sarah Estep began recording in 1976. Throughout the years she has recorded many voices. Some came from the spirit world and others from physical beings in space. In 1982 she began The American Association-Electronic Voice Phenomena, a non profit organization with the purpose bringing EVP awareness and teaching method for capturing these voices. And in 1988 she published her book, Voices of Eternity
.
In 1997 Imants Baruss, of the Department of Psychology at the University of Western Ontario conducted a series of experiments using the methods of Raudive. After over 60 hours of recording time he was unable to replicate a strong EVP. He did pick up a few anomalies that sounded like they may be voices but were quickly pushed to the side because they lacked clarity. Many believe his experimentation was flawed due to the fact that instead of conducting them himself he hired two others who had no prior knowledge of the phenomena. His research on the phenomena was also lacking which may have led to mistakes in his methods, providing little to no success. The findings were published in the Journal of Scientific Exploration in 2001.
In 2003, a Scottish researcher named Alexander MacRae, conducted a number of experiments in a specially designed lab. The laboratory was "double-screened"; shielded against electromagnetic radiation; to prevent interference from radio transmissions or near by electronics, and insulated against sound; to prevent contamination of recordings by external noise sources. He picked up a number of EVPs that represented distinct speech, and do to the level of laboratory screening, could not be explained through conventional means.
Instrumental transcommunication (or ITC) is a more recent term that includes all of the ways these voices and images are collected through technology, via various instruments such as the television, computer hard drive, fax machine, tape recorder, video camera, digital camera, and the like. A lot of these methods produce actual picture evidence and was the inspiration for the 2005 motion picture White Noise.
I've provided links to a couple sites hosting EVP recordings, Spiricom recordings, and basic methods for capturing your own EVPs in the Links section located at the bottom of the sidebar. Happy Hunting!
